Shiva Aher – founder of Renaissance wines – hails from a farming family that has been growing grapes for more than a quarter of a century. With 60 ha of family-owned vineyards, he took the decision in ca. 2000 to change over to growing wine grapes. Chosen varietals were Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Zinfandel.
The winery was opened in 2004 with an inital capacity of 250,00 litres. This has since been expanded to 700,000 litres. Apart from marketing wines under their own label, Renaissance has also supplied bulk wine for marketing under the Four Seasons (UB) and Nilaya (Diageo) brands.
In 2010 Renaissance opened a restaurant and wine lounge adjacent to their winery.
