For thirty years Krishna Valley Vineyards was growing table grapes in northern Karnataka. The vines covered 25 ha at a site 40 km southwest of Bijapur. Then around 2004 the decision was made to convert part of the vineyard to wine grapes. Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Zinfandel were introduced. It is claimed that these grapes are being grown organically, though there is currently no formal certification process.
The first vintage was in 2009 with wines being sold under the brand names of Nesara Vineyards, Season Vineyards and Vintage.
